Last Monday, I had the pleasure of attending a dinner with representatives from the Cumberland County fire departments, the North Carolina State Fireman’s Association (NCSFA) and the North Carolina Association of Fire Chiefs. At this dinner, I was honored by the NCSFA as a “Friend of Fire Service.” I very much appreciate being presented this award and have thoroughly enjoyed working closely with representatives for fire service organizations in my time as a legislator.
Below is a press release from the NC Firemen’s Association:
“Cumberland County, NC, September 22, 2014: Senator Wesley Meredith was recognized Monday night by the local and state Fire Service at a dinner meeting held at the Godwin-Falcon Fire Department in Cumberland County. Representatives from Cumberland County fire departments, as well as Representatives from the NC State Firemen’s Association and NC Association of Fire Chiefs were there to join in the presentation. During the 2013-2014 session of the General Assembly four major statewide fire service programs that provide benefits for firefighters and fire departments were studied by the General Assembly. Senator Meredith was recognized for his support during the study period and resulting legislation in maintaining necessary provisions for the State’s fire service and firefighters. It was also noted that Senator Meredith has been a longtime supporter of the fire service throughout his career. Senator Meredith was presented a plaque which included a replica helmet insignia bearing the image of the General Assembly. According to Chief Freddy Johnson, in addition to statements recognizing Senator Meredith’s leadership and support, the wording on the plaque said it best;
Presented to Senator Wesley Meredith, with deep appreciation for your visionary guidance and undaunting leadership to protecting the vital programs of our NC Firefighter, as a “FRIEND OF THE FIRE SERVICE”.”
